Elegant, sophisticated design in which a number of elements are highlighted with silver eyeliner-looks charming. BMW i Hydrogen NEXT. BMW is ready to focus on alternative powertrain systems, and in particular on hydrogen fuel cell technology. According to the company's engineers and Board members, this technology may well become the fourth pillar of the BMW powertrain range in the long term. We remind you that the BMW Group has been working with Toyota Motor Corporation on fuel cell technology for 7 years.

Analyzing the prospects for the development of hydrogen cell technology, Klaus Fröhlich (one of the Board members of BMW AG), said: “Hydrogen as an energy carrier must first be produced in sufficient quantities at a competitive price using environmentally friendly electricity.” At first, the technology will be used in cases where electrification is not possible, such as for long-distance transport. In addition, the implementation of technology is complicated by the lack of necessary infrastructure.

This technology comes as initial technical data of the transmission for BMW i Hydrogen NEXT. It is this car that intends to present the technology in real conditions and to the General public. The car generates up to 125 kW (170 HP) of electrical energy as a result of a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen from the surrounding air. The vehicle also holds a pair of 700 bar tanks that can together contain six kilograms of hydrogen. The total power of the system is 275 kW (374 HP).
